About APY Ledger
APY Ledger is an independent record of the CD rates U.S. banks and credit unions publish on their own websites — checked every day, with every number traceable to its source.
Why we built it
Finding a bank's current CD rate is harder than it should be. Rates change without notice. Many banks price CDs by ZIP code and only show a rate after you type one in. Promotional rates sit next to standard rates that can be a fraction as high, and the CD often renews at the standard rate. Rate lists elsewhere cover a few dozen large banks, and some pages have not been updated in years.
We wanted one place that answers a simple question honestly: what does this institution pay today, where, and how do you know?
What we do
- Read rates from the source. Every rate comes from the institution's own website. We do not copy rates from other rate sites.
- Check every number before publishing it. Two independent AI models from different companies read each page separately. A rate is published only if both agree exactly, the number appears in the page text, and it passes range and change checks. Anything that fails keeps the last verified rate and its date. The full process is on our methodology page.
- Show rates by location. For banks that price by ZIP code, we check one ZIP in every state where the bank has branches and publish each one.
- Keep the receipts. Every published rate links to the exact page text it was read from and shows when it was last verified.
- Add context. Each rate is compared with the Treasury yield for the same term and with inflation, and we flag when a promotional rate is likely to renew at a much lower standard rate.
What we do not do
- We are not a bank, broker or financial adviser, and we do not give investment advice.
- We are not affiliated with any institution on this site, and no institution can pay to change a rate or a ranking. Rankings are ordered by APY only (see our editorial policy).
- We do not get around websites that block automated access. If we cannot read an institution's rates, we leave it out rather than guess.
- We do not ask for an account, and we never record the amounts you type into a calculator. We count visits with Google Analytics, set up without advertising features (see our privacy policy).
