Methodology · version 1

Only published live/degraded institutions and quotes verified within the past seven days count. For each exact term and FDIC certificate or NCUA charter, select the highest APY from known balance tiers applicable to $10,000. Regional quotes and promotional or special products can qualify; relationship products are excluded. Unknown or conflicting tiers are excluded. Product eligibility and upper balance limits still require confirmation.

The sample includes local and nationwide offers and does not imply every reader can open every account. It is not deposit-weighted. Multiple brands, ZIP quotes and tiers under one regulator ID count once per term.

Median and P90 use linear interpolation at (n − 1) × percentile. Each reported group needs at least 30 independent institutions; a dash means insufficient data. Credit union spread is credit union median minus bank median. Mean Treasury premium is mean CD APY minus the same-term Treasury APY-equivalent (interpolated when needed), in percentage points.

Institution-page “Top X%” badges include ties and compare the displayed quote against this same $10,000 reference sample, even when the displayed product has a different minimum. Collection and verification methodology. Data licensed CC BY 4.0; credit APY Ledger with a link.
