What happens when a promotional CD matures?
The renewal term, rate, grace period and opt-out instructions come from your account disclosure and maturity notice. A current standard CD quote is a comparison scenario; it is not a verified renewal instruction or a forecast of the rate at maturity.
Across 169 independent institutions with a lower standard comparison quote, the mean selected promo-to-standard gap was 157.9 bp. Each institution contributes its widest checked regional pair, so this is a selected-gap average, not an average loss for all CD holders.

Both quotes must be verified on the same UTC day, with known applicable deposit tiers. Terms may differ. The dollar figure assumes each quoted APY lasts one year on $10,000, before taxes, penalties or reinvestment.

Sources, scope and methodology
All findings are generated from verified D1 records using fixed calculations and templates. No language model writes these findings. Stale and future-dated quotes are excluded, as are relationship-only quotes. A regulator ID counts once in each institution-level comparison. This tracked sample is not a deposit-weighted national average.
Index comparisons use the highest applicable $10,000 quote at each exact term per regulator. A median or P90 requires at least 30 independent institutions in its group. Fresh regional and promotional offers can be included; availability and membership conditions still apply. ZIP comparisons instead match a stated product, term and tier.
